Zaha Hadid, OMA, BIG, Renzo Piano and Herzog & de Meuron have all completed residential high-rises in Miami and Miami Beach. We’ve rounded up the key projects.
Grove at Grand Bay, Miami by BIG
Marking the first condominium project in the United States by Bjarke Ingels’ architecture firm, Grove at Grand Bay comprises a pair of glass high-rises with twisted bases.
“Coconut Grove is a special place with a well-defined soul, so it was important that Grove at Grand Bay respond to its community through a design that was respectful and distinctive,” Ingels said.
The towers are emphasised by overhanging floor plates that create balconies to offer residents views of the surroundings, including Biscayne Bay. They also shade the floors below from sunlight.
Eighty Seven Park by Renzo Piano
Terraces wrap the oval-shaped building that Renzo Piano Building Workshop has just completed on Miami Beach’s northern waterfront.
Called Eighty Seven Park, it comprises 18 storeys elevated above the ground on columns creating space for an outdoor swimming pool.
“The language we wanted to use for Eighty Seven Park is the language of lightness, a sense of a lack of gravity,” said Piano.
Park Grove by OMA
OMA’s Park Grove housing complex comprises three 23-storey buildings. This includes residential tower Two Park Grove and Club Residences which both completed in 2018, and the One Park Grove condominium that is expected to complete this year.
The club building is cylindrical, while the two residences have figure-of-eight-shaped floor plans and chunky concrete walls.
